About Hereford

Hereford is a safe and welcoming city, rich in history and beautiful countryside but still only a one-and a-half hour drive away from Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol.

High Town is the hub of Hereford city centre and provides a central open space for a variety of events and street entertainment throughout the year. The regeneration of the city-centre ‘Old Market’ is complete with many high street shops, a new multi-screen cinema as well as a selection of restaurants. The range of shops, from well-known high street names through to independent retailers, offer something for everyone.

Walking Distance

When it comes to getting around Hereford City, most places are within walking distance of the Hereford Campus and the cycle paths throughout the city offer the option of safe cycling. As well as an active train station, new road developments around Herefordshire are hoped to ease congestion and strengthen links with other cities and major routes. The pedestrianised centre and European café styling give the centre a bustling feel with everything you need close at hand.

Shopping

As well as regular high-street brands Hereford is home to a variety of regular local markets which offer something that little bit different.

Craft markets, food markets, Christmas and French markets all feature regularly with many products locally sourced. Church Street is one of the city’s most picturesque areas. A beautiful cobbled street lined with unique independent shops, cafes and galleries all leading to the recently restored cathedral.

Going Out

With several colleges based in Hereford there is a thriving community of varied people and a range of options for socialising. There are plenty of pubs and bars, catering for all tastes and many different restaurants ranging from traditional to exotic cuisine. The Courtyard Theatre brings big names from film, art, music and comedy as well as supporting local talents.

Sports & Activities

The city has benefited greatly from the development of its leisure facilities in recent years and complexes such as The Point 4, Wye Leisure and Halo have really improved the range of facilities. Due to the county’s rural location walking, riding, cycling, hiking and canoeing are right on your doorstep.
